spoolsv.exe and Win2K SP1

I have unsuccesfully tried loading SP1 to my Win2K Professional workstation. It always comes up with the message that the spooler service must be running in order to load SP1.
For some reason the spooler service loads at startup but unloads soon after. What’s going on and what should I do?
