Startup problems after SP2 on Win2k Srvr

by minhajlk . Updated 24 years, 1 month ago

Hi,

I applied service pack 2 on a Win2k Server which is a (DNS/File Server) an IBM x220 with 256 RAM with mirrored disks, the restart was fine. We use to shut down our server for the night as there is no a/c running in the night. In the morning when the server was started there was not a single desktop icons but the taskbar is visible. However, the client machines can access the data on the server without any problems.

So I tried to run explorer and control panel through run command, it did not run. I checked the event viewer, one of the messages says that the index service is corrupt and I need to stop and restart, so I tried to stop and restart the service, system just froze. After a forced shutdown the system is very slow.

Next I tried to reinstall the service pack 2 due the slowness of the system I did another forced shutdown.

What do I do to resolve this problem….Pls help!!!!

Regards,

Minhaj.
