Static and beeping on computer speakers

I have an HP 9995 pavilion computer. Used very little, it has developed a noisy (static) and intermittent (beeping). I have just bought new speakers by Altec Lansing (nice) and have the same identical problem. I have followed the advice offered byHP tech support to attempt ferreting out the offending application without success. Anybody want to query me about this and try to help me get to the bottom of this problem. I would deeply appreciate it.
