We have a problem where Windows XP SP2 appears not to even notice that one of our USB devices has been plugged in. That is to say, we don’t get the “device connect” sound and the device no longer works.
The device in question happens to be a DYMO Labelwriter printer, but we have had this problem with other devices occasionally in the last few years.
1. The printer works fine on another computer.
2. Another identical printer fails the same way on this computer.
3. Using a different USB port makes no difference.
4. Other devices (usb mouse, flash drive) work fine on all of the ports on this computer.
5.We have tried the usual uninstall/reinstall but the install program doesn’t see the printer when it is plugged in at the appropriate time in the install process.
6. There is nothing unusual in the event log.
Any ideas?
