I am looking for the URL on Symantec’s web site for their free virus warning system. They used to have a free service where you could plug in your e-mail address, and then whenever a new virus became very active, they would send out a warning e-mail.
Mcafee has the “Mcafee Dispatch” which does this. Unfortunately, Mcafee also sends out their own spam mail to everyone who signs up for this, so I don’t want to use this one.
Messagelabs.com has the same type of notification.
I always liked Symantec the best. They would send out a single HTML-formatted e-mail, addressed from “symantec@reply.digitalriver.com” (this e-mail address cannot be replied to). Whenever a virus hit a Threat Level of “Category 3” or higher is when they would send out this free e-mail.
It was a great way of staying on top of new virii.
But I noticed that I did not receive one when BugBear.B came out, so I am not sure if Symantec still does this or not.
So, if someone has the URL to the free virus warning signup page for Symantec, please post it. If Symantec is not longer doing this free service, please post that too!
