Synchronize offline folders Outlook/Exch

Using Exchange 5.5 on NT4 SP6 server with Outlook 97 on NT4 SP6 workstation.
Set up Outlook to synchronize, but when it begins to synchronize I get a Dr Watson. ‘An application error has occurred…. outlook.exe’ Can anyone help?
