I purchased the CDR/RW last weekend. I have been using a Phillips cd burner for a few years. This Phillips was internal and slaved off the standard CD-ROM. Also I have an internal Zip drive which is slaved off the harddrive.
OS is Windows 98, plenty of RAM and harddrive space.
I removed the Phillips and replaced it with the Ricoh. On power up bios nor Win98 recognized either CD-ROM. Finally I removed the standard CD-ROM and connected just the Ricoh and was able to get the system to recognize it. The first software install Prassi Primo CDPlus went fine and I rebooted. The second install Prassi abcd went fine and I rebooted.
When the system came up the packet writing software loaded and hung up the system and on a poke it in the eye shutdown the system would not come back up normal or safe mode.
I use a software called goback and I was able to return to a time before I installed the software.
After more work I reconnected the standard CD-ROM as Master and the Ricoh as slave and was able to get the system to recognize both cd-roms. I installed both Prassi softwares and again when the Prassi abcd software loaded after the reboot the system hung up. One problem fixed.
I began looking elsewhere. In Control Panel, System Devices I found a device conflict toward the bottom. It was the System Board Extension for PNP Bios. For some reason I cannot get this cleaned up. The window shows Device status:Device is causing a resource conflict, Code 15. Resourcessays no conflict. It will not allow me to change any of the settings or tell me what device is causing the conflict. I checked and cannot see any duplicate devices. I chose to remove this several times and on boot up Win98 reloads it. Error is still there.
I tried to put the system back in the same state with the Phillips cd burner and the standard cd-rom configuration but the same error message is still there.
