System will not BOOT UP

I have a system that worked fine on Friday (or so the user says). When starting the systtem today it shows a message “Invalid System Disk replace the disk and press anykey”

I can use F-disk and go and view the drive and its contents and jump in and out of folders.

My question is could the master boot record cause this and should I replace it?

Or any other ideas?
