Taking A Job That Might Not Be Inline With Your Career Goals.

Having been offered a 1 year contract to do Desktop Deployments at various D.o.D. sites, I have to wonder if this experience will be that helpful to my career.

My last job was a mix of web development, database programming, network admin, internal & external user support. My goal is to keep my career in Networking & System Admin areas. I feel that my experience and certifications put me at that level.
I?ve had several interviews with the result of, ?We?re [the Company] impressed by you and you have good skills but? your skill set isn?t an exact match for our needs.?

The Desktop Deployment contract is limited to only hooking up pre-imaged systems and using Dell’s migration/deployment software to set up work stations.

My questions are: Would this experience be beneficial to my career goals? And: Am I aiming to low by considering what a technician position is, by job description?

Anyone every have do make similar decision?
