Hardware:
Compaq Proliant ML350 Server.
Internal 20/40 GB DAT tape drive (Compaq SDT 9000)
Software:
NT4 with all current serivce packs.
MS SQL 2000
I run an NT backup using the Windows backup software each day and a separate SQL backup. Recently I get the following error message (out of the blue, by the way):
“A tape device has been detected, and the tape driver started. However, the tape device is not responding. Check that tape device power is on and cables are properly connected.”
Here is what I have done (to no avail):
Checked connections: they were fine.
Compaq engineer came out and replaced the tape drive.
Compaq engineer rechecked cables.
I removed the device driver, downloaded replacement driver at HP site.
None of the above helped.
At boot up, the system recognizes the SCSI hard drives AND the tape device.
Start>Control Panel>Tape Devices: Device working properly.
But, when you go to run Backup, at the bottom of the screen it says “Initialising Hardware” and hangs for 5 minutes and then comes back with the error message mentioned above.
Any ideas? Arrrggghhhh!
