TCP/IP Problem

by rwebster . Updated 24 years, 6 months ago

I have a Windows ME machine that uses DHCP to get its IP address. It does get all of the correct IP information through DHCP. You cannot use IE or netscape to browse the net. All you get is “cannot find server or DNS error”. If you go to the commandline and ping a dns entry you get “unknown host xxx” error. Some pings to dns entries work like www.yahoo.com, but you cannot go to IE and get to www.yahoo.com. You can ping any IP address. In IE you cannot get to any web server through it’s IP address.

I have deleted the network settings, dialup connections, network card and reinstalled. I have checked for proxy settings. This started when I was at win98 os. Upgraded to win 98 se, no difference. Upgraded to win me, no difference.
