The other side of Computer monitoring in business

by hal 9000 . Updated 22 years, 3 months ago

Well I’m one of the first to admit that there is no privacy in the work place particularly when it comes to the use of computers for Internet communications or web surfing but yesterday I saw the other side of the coin.

A small company who is specifically monitoring one of their workers instant messaging for their own titillation. While I do accept the need to have some knowledge over what a companies computers are being used for if only to protect that company from any Legal problems this there has to be a line drawn somewhere as well.

To me this is just as much abuse of the system as the person who is offending. If it was up to me I would remove everyone concerned but as the practice is being instigated by the boss and is allowed to continue unchecked there is nothing that I can see happening to stop this practice.

To me and I’m sure I’m not alone here the monitoring of a young females IM only for the titillation of several people concerned is sickening.

Any comments on how to avoid this in future?

Col
