The use of light as a storage device.

Hello,

My name is Jason and I just now entering into the field of Information Technology. I was wondering what the possibilities were that in the near future (or distant future) we could see storage devices that used light as their means of holding the data. I have heard and read recently that some Scientists as Harvard have found a way to stop and store light. I was wondering if that technology could be used in the computer industry to storage data on a kind of drive or some other device. Let me know what you think.
