To Capture Data from Serial Port

With Visual Basic 6.0 as Front End
Microsoft SQL ver 7.0 as Back End
Operating System Windows NT ver 4.0
I would like to capture data from the machine connected to the serial/parallel port of my PC using the above mentioned softwares.
