We have a remote site which is connected to our network via an ISDN 2e line. We pay the phone bills on a charge by the minute basis.
The problem we have is that we have a massive phone bill. The users are only allowed to use the system during certain times of the day to keep bills down. They are using a database on another site, therefore the data must cross the IDSN link.
The main problem is that the line seems to be up almost every minute, causing massive phone bills.
How can I reduce the traffic going across the WAN without unplugging the router or putting them on another domain? Moving the database is not an option.
Does anyone have a list of typical replication activities and how to reduce the timescales of when replication occurs?
Does WINS, DHCP, DNS, browse lists etc.. updating cause all this traffic?
If anyone can help, or even point me to some documents – I’ll be very grateful!!
