Toshiba 3480cdt Hd error

I have a toshiba protege3480cdt laptop which is displaying a no os incert system disk. I recently took the hd out and reformatted it on a windows xp machine via usb connection.when I tranferred the drive back to the laptop it would not boot even with a win98 boot disk.
