Toshiba laptop restore will not complete restore, please help.

Windows XP Home SP2

I am trying to fix my wife’s laptop with the provided Toshiba Restore CD which includes the OS and all the pre-bundled drivers etc. The Toshiba utility goes through the restore process by using a GHOST utility to partition the drive etc. It gets to the point where it loads Windows back to the desk top and continues fixing while in the desktop but freezes, after several attempts of re-running the program it just freezes while loading Windows.

Any suggestions? I was thinking of maybe using a bootable cd that will wipe and format the drive clean.
