Transferring a Hard Drive?

I’m sure this question’s been asked and answered many times before, but what is the correct procedure for moving a hard drive loaded with Win98SE from one computer to another with different hardware? I would like to transfer a HD to a new computer with out having to spend days reinstalling and re-customizing. I would assume that all you would need to do is to remove all the system devices in the device manager so that the OS will recognize the new hardware, but I would really like to know for sure that will work.
