I’m attempting to revive an older Cyrix based 486 AT machine. I am using a 3.2GB IBM Deskstar HDD which supports both CHS and LBA translation. The BIOS recognizes the proper drive geometry (Cyl= 6296, Heads= 16, Sectors= 63) but when I use windows95/a/b/98’s version of fdisk, it doesn’t recognize above the 528MB barrier. My question is this: why would the BIOS recognize the drive, but fdisk won’t see it as a large drive? Do I need special device drivers? Help.
