Trouble installing XP over 98SE

I recently installed XP Pro over my existing windows 98SE. The operating system seems to be much more stable and quick but I am having a few problems. First off, I lost all my emails in all of my outlook express accounts. Also, Norton antivirus “auto protect” won’t work, wont let me reinstall, and wont even let me uninstall. Also my return to castle wolfenstein shortcuts now show a path that doesnt exist. Does XP place files at different places and not update the shortcuts? One last annoyance is the pop up message with Windows Messenger that come up anytime you are connected to the internet, how do you block those? Sorry for droning on so, the norton and loss of email are the most egregious problems, but I was hoping to get help with the others too. If you can help me out at all I would greatly appreciate it.
