Unable to boot from SATA HD after Vista install

by cfrank01 . Updated 19 years, 3 months ago

Recently built a new system with the ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe MD, SATA HD, SATA CD/DVD, 2G RAM, AMD AM2 3800+ CPU. Pulled SATA HD from old system and placed in new system. Left XP OS intact on this partitioned drive (27Gb partition with OS and 200Gb data partiton). When I tried to boot up in new system, I briefly saw a faint image of the XP loading screen and then nothing. Then decided to load Vista Business edition. BIOS recoginizes both the SATA HD and SATA CD. Was able to boot to Vista install CD and it seems to install. However, upon reboot and after BIOS screen, nothing. I then formated the OS partition and tried to install Vista again (as a clean install). No errors but this time upon reboot, I get messgage “BOOTMGR is missing” AGHHH!!! What am I missing or do I have a new motherboard problem?
