Unable to Uninstall/Install Office Xp

Due to some reason I uninstalled Office 2000, after installing Windows XP. I installed Office Xp after completion the same never started. Now unable to reinstall/ Uninstall or repair Office XP. Getting msg ” Error 1606. Could not access network location,< Common Administration Tools>. All Users\.” Please advise urgently what to do ?? Unfortunately Windows XP without MS Word, which makes life worst as all MS Word documents unable to open in Wordpad or Notepad as expected.
