Unable to view printer properties in Win

We have a 3 pc running Windows 2000 Pro, when you install a network printer and try to look at the printers properties, Windows closes the printer window, printer folder and seems to crash explorer (the desktop refreshes itself). Does this with ot without virus software running, and does it on printers are shared on a NT server and ones that run on a Novell 5 print server. The printers print I just can’t turn off the network notice it sends after a print job has been sent and get into other properties settings
