Unmountable Boot Volume

I get the error UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME when i start up my windows XP machine. I have inserted the Windows XP disk and gone to the recovery section and tried chkdsk /p and /r but it gets to 3 or sometimes 4% and then just sits there. I dont know what to do…
