Upgrade network from NT to 2000

Hello all. We will be upgrading our network in the coming months, approx 115 workstations and 6 servers. I have seen that many people recommend upgrading the severs to Win2k before upgrading the workstations, what are the ramifications to doing the reverse, upgrade the worstations before the servers? All input is appreciated. thanks.
