Upgrade versus Clean Install of W2K

I have heard it said that it is better to migrate from WinNT 4.0 to W2K via a “clean install” (moving docs and data aside, etc.) rather than just “upgrading” a WinNT 4.0 system in place. Does anyone have real data (performance differences, technicalwhite papers, etc) that supports this claim?
