Upgrading from Win95 to Win98

I am trying to upgrade from Windows 95 to Windows 98 SE using the full version CD and not the upgrade CD. I get an error message stating that my computer already has an operating system which cannot be upgraded by this version of setup and to use the Windows 98 Upgrade CD. Is there a way to still use the full version CD without reformatting and starting over.
