Upgrading Presario 5900T to W2K

One of my users has a Compaq Presario 5900T (vintage 1999). Has anyone successfully upgraded this model to Windows 2000?

There does not seem to exist a video card driver for the nVidia GeForce 256, which the upgrade check is complaining about. Will trashing the video card and replacing it with a new card which is W2K compatible solve the problem?

I am not looking for a generic “yes” here. Some of the Compaq models have some very strange twists to them, and I do not have a lot of time forcut-and-try. Please respond only if you have done an upgrade on the Presario 5900T.
