Upgrading to Windows 2000 Server

In order to upgrade a PDC(NT Server) to Windows 2000 is it necessary to remove DHCP and disable the file/print server functionality?

Also, I came across an article which says that during the installation we must opt to create a new domain. Would it be okay if I joined the existing domain?
