After i upgraded to the xp pro (volume license) from home (oem or retail not sure), which involved the uninstall of sp2, after the upgrade to pro i started getting Windows Genuine Advantage alerts.
so i changed the windows key to the volume license key, i think it has 60 licenses on it. This is a donated computer (i work for a child health care company) and the person that would be using this computer wanted to retain the settings and contents since he was using it prior. After reading up on this little jewel i realized that i didnt want it (WGA) on this computer. so i uninstalled it. But now i cant install sp2 still, even though ive tried to upgrade again with a slipstreamed sp2 xp pro disk. it still goes through the motions during set up, but when i go look in dxdiag its not showing to be a sp2 build, nor do i see the update in add/remove programs, im getting an error after the stand alone sp2 install wiz “inspects” the computer. ive never had this problem before, but ive never tried to save anything on a donated comp, i usually just wipe and clean install. i just wondered if there was something i was missing. there has got to be a way to save this guy’s stuff. i didnt care about the windows genuine anyway, we always choose what we patch and what we dont, i guess he had this downloaded as part of his auto patches. what do you guys think?
