USB 2

Recently I have purchased one Freecom External Hard drive. When I connect this hard drive i used to get one massage that this could work faster if connected to USB 2.This computer has two U.S.B. ports and I have tried with both the ports but it do not work very fast. I have checked in controlpanel/system/hardware/device manger/intel(R)82801DBM USB 2.0 Enhanced Host controller-24CD.
It seems that this computer is compatible to USB 2 configuration. But, I do not know How to activate it.
I know guys this might be a silly question but help me so that my external hard drive work faster.
