USB Controller Disables after restart

by techy . Updated 18 years, 8 months ago

Hi
I recently upgraded my AMD 3800+ CPU to a 4200+ dual core socket 939 on an Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard with Win XP pro X64 op system.

Problem is that after I restart or shutdown and turn the computer back on my USB mouse is disabled as is my Joustick. All other USB functions are OK IE: flash drives, my external usb sound card.

The problem is found in Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>Universal Serial Bus Controllers with the problem being the (Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller).

If I go and uninstall or actually disable the device, then scan for hardware changes, and then enable the the device this fixes the problem until I have to restart, then the device is reported to have a problem and cannot start.

I know my hardware to be OK as I have a dual boot system with Vista on one drive and XP X64 on the other, and if I boot into the Vista op system then I have no problem.

I have hooked up a temp.PS2 mouse for nav purposes and it is not effected.

I might add that prior to the CPU change I had no problems with USB and can’t really see the connection.

Can anyone shed any light on this very anoying problem please.

Regards
Allan
