usb hassles

i run windows xp on a hp compaq nx7010 but the usb ports are not working, all the drivers are installed and windows says they are working properly but they dont recognize anything. usb mouse, external hard drive… nothing!!!!!! pls any idea on this will be appreciated. i need it urgent so u can pls mail me on frostyvenom@yahoo.com
