USB Hidden trash – can I ever see it on my mac

I have a 512 MB USB thumb drive. When I open it, the file is empty but
when I look at the properties, it has only227 availabe MB. Can I see the
hidden files? I think I deleted something that I now need to see.
I think its in a file called trashes but that isn’t showing up either.
Please help
