User ID in native mode.

We are in the process of upgrading our network from NT4.0 to 2000. We currently use payroll number (i.e. mg1234) for logon name. When we switch to native mode with this pre-2000 logon name be invalid? Will I have to make the username@domainname the same as the pre-2000 logon?
