Using ethernet card

I am now using the dial up telephone modem.
The phone company sent me a new high speed modem
theat uses the ethernet card. Can I use both
of these or do I have to turn off one or does
the high speed modem do away with the other. They
will be on the same line? Also how do you turn
on the ethernet card I have it but it does not
show on my computer. Thanks Sharon
