Using Fax in Windows XP

When I tried to use the fax loaded in windows XP the telephone lost it’s dial tone and I had to disconnect my phone line to the modem to re-establish my phone’s dial tone. I use a 512 LAN to get on the internet and I’m not really sure how to configure the fax to use a phone line.

Any ideas on how to set up the fax so it will work correctly.
