There are several instances-
1. Clean install of xp on a new IDE hard drive in a new computer. The os installs on C drive.
turn off – add internal cardreader to mobo pins and reboot drive is now H drive and card readers are c,d,e,f and dvd rom is G drive.
hard drive remains as H drive with disconnected hardware. Sometimes i have rebooted several times between and i still get this result. (I build lots of systems)
2. Clean install of os on new sata hdd in new computer. shutdown. clients hdd is pinned as slave and set in bios as sec slave. boot sequence stipulates dvd then sata drive. boot.
client hdd is c drive, system drive is D and dvd is E.
In every instance i have followed microsoft restore system drive paper and have to do a system repair.
WHY DOES WINDOWS SOMETIMES ARBITARILY CHANGE ITS SYSTEM DRIVE LETTER AND WHAT CEMENTS IT IN PLACE AS C DRIVE??
any feedback would be appreciated.
