VIA Sound driver disabled

“Midi and Wave drivers for VIA PCI Audio controller not properly installed”
Sound on Windows 98 PC fine until download of “Advance Audio Logic” from Microsoft site, which disabled sound driver. Motherboard Driver previously correctly installed.
Reinstalling sound driver from windows 98SE resulted in System repairing old files. Result, no sound.
Also, then downloaded Microsoft Direct X 8.1 upgrade, and VIA 4 in 1.
Hope not to have to remove and re-install all software.
