Video Card problems

by 8239pascoe . Updated 19 years, 2 months ago

I hope someone will be able to help me with this error.

I just custom built a computer.

Specs:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Socket AM2 CPU
Gigabyte M61VME-S2 Socket AM2 Motherboard
2048MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz
Western Digital 320 GB SATA 7200 RPM 8MB Cache
GeForce 8600 GTS
Windows XP Pro SP2

Here is the problem that I am having. When I install the drivers for the GeForce 8600 GTS my computer appears to load. I get the Windows XP loading screen but when that finishes my screen goes blank and my hard drive starts to really crank like it is loading something and then after about 4 minutes the computer restarts. If I do not have the drivers installed I am able load the computer.

Since I was having this problem I was trying to determine if it was the graphics card or the motherboard or some other device. I shut down the graphics card but left it in the computer and enabled the onboard graphics card. When I did this I got the error:

*** STOP: 0x0000007E(0xC0000005, 0xBADB6FAB, 0xBAD032F8, 0xBAD02FF4)

I am unable to find any information on this error.

Once I take the GeForce 8600 GTS out and use the onboard all by itself though Windows loads fine.

Can anyone help me with the problems that I am experiencing.

Thank you all
