video conferencing

An engineer and myself have been tasked with recommending a video conferencing solution. In the big picture we do not know a lot about this topic other than playing with our web cams at home.

We have been asked to provide 2 or 3 solutions, not bargain basement and not top of the line. Can anyone point us in a good starting place or have learned things the hard way that they could pass along? We would appreciate it.
