Video display size

When preinstalling software to setup windows the screen size is too long in height and doubled.The edit command (eg.split screen ctrl+f8 and size ctrl+f6)does not seem to fix the alignment.Drive letter is two or three lines below cursor making it impossible to see what is typed or shown.This does not appear in windows or dos prompt.Please assist if you can.I need to fdisk my new drive.
