Virtual PC 2007 vhd sharing

by brian . Updated 19 years ago

I use a couple of different virtual machines running Windows XP SP2. I normally don’t run them at the same time.

I’d like to centralize their normal storage of files. I’d like to have a second and third virtual hard drive that is the same for both of them. I set things up (both hard drives as 130GB dynamic expanding disks formatted with NTFS) and figured I had a nice solution. I moved the “My Documents” folder of each VM over to one of the shared virtual hard drives (but not in the exact same directory).

At least one of the vhd files seems to get corrupt though. I’ve gotten this error twice in 2 days:
“The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume U:.

ChkDsk seems to find a whole lot of error and fixes them and I now have a lot of files in a couple of “found.000” and “found.001” directories.

Is sharing VHD files between 2 Virtual Machines under Virtual PC 2007 something I should not be doing?
