Virus

A friend of mine has a laptop that he “forgot” to renew his virus software. Needless to say, he got the Backdoor-bac virus. Well, of course, you cannot reinstall the virus software now because the virus won’t let you. Any ideas on how to remove this virus without completely formatting the HDD and reloading? Thanks!
