I have XP, W2KP, W98SE network at home. A friend of mine in another city has a similar network. He is using a double nic box for his server, I am using a D-Link Router. We both have cable access. How can we setup a VPN for just the two of us? XP is supposed to have remote desktop, but the way I understand it, it’s to allow someone on a remote system to access my box, and take control of it.
At my job, I lost all my personal folders in OL2K a few days ago, the helpdesk got the number of the computer I work on, and got my permission to access my account with my password. My personal folders were retrieved lickety split, and it was amazing watching the mouse cursor doing the work on my end, when the helpdesk person was exploreing the computer I was on. Knowing this much, I and my friend (we so called…trust each other) want to establish remote access to help each other on our systems, it would be much easier to just take control and let him watch me doing the manipulations, and vice versa. My job uses SMS? to do their job in IT. I’m only a small network and my friend ditto. This also would familiarize us with the technology some.
