VPN Connectivity Problem

My laptop freezes when I disconnect a VPN connection. I am running Win98SE and dialing in via MSN to connect to a Novell 5.1 Server and an Exchange 5.5 email server. I have upgraded Win98, MSIE and MSN software
to the most current versions. The connection works great but the laptop freezes up when I disconnect.
