VPN…No script file running

Two qwestions,

When ever I log on to work network using VPN , I see no logon script files runnig + to get to network drives, I have to use the IP number of the server and the drives name \\111.111.11.1\xxx. It woun’t let me use \\ser.name\xxx… When I go back to work and log on to the domain, I see the script files running. Why don’t I see the script file when I use VPN? I am using W2K laptop
