W2K can only start in Safe Mode

My user’s laptop is only able to boot up in Safe Mode. If we try to boot up normally it gets to the W2K screen and then goes blank. Does anyone know what might be causing this and how can I fix it? I’ve looked through the Event Viewer and there is a problem with the SYMTDI service.
