w2k crashes

I have a machine that explorer is crashing on. It is a new pc that has been in use for about a week. Running w2k sp2. Pretty much as soon as you get into explorer either by right clicking on start or if you go through my documents it hangs up andhas to be killed through task manager. Another strange thing is that disk cleanup freezes while looking for directories to delete. Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be causing this and how to fix? Thanks!
