W2K domain controller

I have attempted to upgrade my NT4 PDC to Win2000. I believe the upgrade was sucessful with the exception of DNS. My question is: Does the NT4 BDC still give me any protection if the W2K domain controller goes offline? Name resolution seems slower than on the NT4 is this common? I don’t always see all the computers that are attached to the domain.
